Srinagar, June 01: The University of Kashmir (KU) marked World Bicycle Day 2025 by hosting a special cycling event titled โSundays on Cycleโ, organized by the Department of Studentsโ Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
The event aimed to promote health, sustainability, and community bonding within the university. Students, faculty, and administrative staff took part in the cycle rally, showing their commitment to personal well-being and environmental responsibility.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message, stated that cycling symbolizes dedication to the planet, personal health, and shared community values. She appreciated the active involvement of the participants, highlighting the importance of such sustainable initiatives.
The cycle rally was jointly flagged off by Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, Dean Academic Affairs, and Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar KU. Prof. Pirzada emphasized that the event reflected KUโs broader focus on sustainability and student welfare. Prof. Naseer noted that cycling is an inclusive activity that unites the university community.
Prof. Pervez Ahmed, Dean of Studentsโ Welfare, said the youth play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable future and that such initiatives instill values of health, discipline, and social responsibility.
Also present at the event were Chief Proctor Prof. Imtiyaz A Khan, Dr. Surjeet Singh (Coordinator, DPE&S), Tawseef Ahmad (Assistant Director, DPE&S), and Dr. Shahid Ali Khan (Cultural Officer, DSW).
