Baramulla, May 16 – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi visited forward areas in Baramulla on Friday and praised the bravery of Army and BSF personnel involved in Operation Sindoor. He also presented the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Disc to HC (GD) Rantana Ram of the 185 Battalion BSF for his courageous actions during the operation.

A day earlier, General Dwivedi had toured frontline posts of the Dagger Division in Jammu and Kashmir, where he interacted with troops and acknowledged their steadfast vigilance and commitment in safeguarding the Line of Control (LoC). He urged the forces to stay ready to meet any challenge with decisive action.

On May 14, General Dwivedi, along with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, participated in a high-level review of Operation Sindoor. The leadership provided detailed insights into the joint operation and the high level of synergy achieved between the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

According to the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, the meeting also involved discussions with military veterans and strategic experts, focusing on the success of integrated multi-domain operations executed with clarity and joint coordination.

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In a retaliatory strike, Indian forces targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and attempted drone incursions, prompting India to launch a coordinated counterattack that damaged radar systems, communication hubs, and airfields at 11 Pakistani airbases.

Following this escalation, both nations reached an understanding to halt hostilities on May 10.
