Srinagar, April 16: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep concern over the recent violence in West Bengalโs Murshidabad district, which erupted in response to the Waqf Amendment Act. She described the incidents, which led to loss of innocent lives, as โdeeply disturbingโ and urged the Muslim community to remain united and focus their efforts on constructive and peaceful resistance.
In a post on social media platform X, Mufti highlighted the troubling nature of the unrest, especially in light of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjeeโs assurance that the controversial legislation would not be implemented in the state. Despite this, the region witnessed violent clashes, leading to displacement and fear among affected communities.
Mufti emphasized the need for the community to uphold their constitutional rights through lawful and non-violent means, warning against actions that could undermine allies who have stood by them at significant personal and political risk.
She further cautioned against allowing communal elements to exploit such situations to advance their divisive agendas, calling for vigilance and unity to counter efforts aimed at marginalizing and disempowering the community
