Omar Abdullah Visits Poonch, Meets Shelling Victims

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Poonch to meet the families of those killed in recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan, which claimed 13 lives. Expressing condolences, he thanked residents for maintaining communal harmony during the crisis and assured that civil society suggestions would be implemented to reduce future casualties.

Speaking to the media, Abdullah described the situation as โ€œwar-likeโ€ and stressed the need for preventive measures. He also visited a government hospital to meet the injured and assured them of administrative support.

Among the victims’ families he visited were those of Amrik Singh and Amarjeet Singh. In a similar gesture, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met the family of Zakir Hussain and confirmed the release of ex gratia relief.

Meanwhile, National Conference MP Mian Altaf Ahmed welcomed the India-Pakistan ceasefire and urged the government to provide jobs for victimsโ€™ families and assistance for damaged homes in Rajouri and Poonch. He noted that the situation was improving but emphasized the need for continued support.

The DGMOs of India and Pakistan are scheduled to hold talks on Monday to reinforce the ceasefire agreement.
