Jammu, May 28: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Jammu and Kashmir, successfully concluded the Inter-Zonal District Level sports competitions on Wednesday, marking a day of spirited performances and remarkable athleticism from students across the district. Held at key venues such as MA Stadium and Parade Ground, the competitions saw participation from over 500 students representing both government and private schools.
Zone Gandhi Nagar emerged as a dominant force throughout the dayโs events. At MA Stadium, they claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over Zone Jammu in the Under-14 Girls Badminton final. Their winning momentum continued at Parade Ground, where they clinched both the U-14 and U-17 Boys Football titles. The U-14 team edged past Zone Jammu 1-0, while the U-17 side overpowered Zone Satwari with a commanding 3-0 win.
The competitions were held under the patronage of Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, who highlighted the broader impact of such events on youth development. โThese competitions reflect not only the sporting prowess of our young athletes but also their discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These are the foundations of well-rounded individuals,โ he said. He was joined by Deputy Director Central, Jatinder Mishra, and other senior officials.
A wide array of disciplines including Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Yoga, and Gymnastics were contested with fervour. In Kabaddi, the U-17 boys from Cluster Zones Akhnoor, Jourian, Khour, and Chowki Choura delivered a standout performance, defeating their counterparts from Jammu, Dansal, Marh, and Bhalwal with a decisive 56-40 scoreline. Volleyball matches in both U-14 and U-17 categories saw intense battles, with teams from Satwari, Gandhi Nagar, Miran Sahib, and Akhnoor displaying exceptional skill.
In individual events, young talents shone brightly. In the Yoga U-14 Girls category, Sadhya secured first place, followed by Nidhya and Kabit. In Gymnastics, Trishiva Proch and Kevya Sarmal topped the U-14 and U-17 boys categories respectively, underlining the depth of talent across various sports.
Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu, commended the students and technical staff for making the day a success. He encouraged the youth to embrace sports not just as a competitive pursuit, but as a pathway to a disciplined and healthy lifestyle.
The events were conducted with expert oversight by seasoned officials, ensuring fair play and smooth execution across all venues. The competitions not only fostered camaraderie and competitive spirit among young athletes but also served as a platform to scout talent for higher-level tournaments.
