Budgam, May 16: In a major crackdown on terror networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Budgam arrested three associates linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), according to an official statement from Kashmir Police.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Muzamil Ahmad and Ishfaq Pandit, both from Aglar Pattan, and Muneer Ahmad from Meeripora Beerwah. The arrests took place in Kawoosa Narbal area of Magam town.
Police recovered arms and ammunition from their possession, including a pistol and a hand grenade. A case has been registered at Police Station Magam under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and investigations are ongoing.
Preliminary findings revealed that the arrested trio were in close contact with active LeT terrorist Aabid Qayoom Lone, a resident of Wussan Pattan, who crossed into Pakistan in 2020 and joined the LeT. He is now operating from Pakistan and is involved in radicalising local youth and orchestrating terror activities in the Narbal-Magam region.
Acting on his instructions, the arrested men were planning attacks and working to recruit more youth into terror ranks.
This development follows India’s launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, a strategic counter-terror response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. Indiaโs airstrikes in Pakistan and PoJK reportedly eliminated over 100 terrorists.
