Srinagar โ€“ CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Monday, calling it an attack on the rights of the Muslim minority community.

Speaking to reporters, Tarigami, the MLA from Kulgam, mentioned that during the party Congress in Madurai, delegates from across the country, including those closely linked to the faith, writers, and individuals committed to political and social causes, unanimously agreed that the Waqf (Amendment) Act severely undermines the rights of Muslims.

He expressed concern that such actions pose a threat to the countryโ€™s democratic framework and constitutional values.

โ€œWe pointed this out at the Congress, highlighting how such measures are weakening the democratic and constitutional structure of our nation,โ€ he said.

Tarigami urged civil society, lawmakers, writers, and the media to speak out. โ€œWhether itโ€™s an attack on minorities, democracy, institutions, or constitutional rights, one never knows what could be targeted next. We must raise our voices before itโ€™s too late,โ€ he added.
