Srinagar โ The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar has seen an unprecedented influx of tourists this spring, drawing a record-breaking 6,71,926 visitors in just 20 days since its opening on March 26, 2025. This marks the highest footfall in the gardenโs history, solidifying its status as one of Indiaโs premier springtime destinations.
Nestled at the base of the Zabarwan Range and overlooking the serene Dal Lake, the garden currently features a dazzling display of 1.7 million blooming tulips in shades of red, yellow, pink, purple, and white.
This year’s Tulip Show has attracted a diverse crowd, including 27,810 locals, 3,91,918 domestic visitors, and 2,198 international tourists. The turnout has already surpassed previous recordsโ3.65 lakh visitors in 2022 and 2023, and 4.45 lakh in 2024. With several days left in the season, the final figure is expected to climb further.
A senior tourism official described the turnout as a milestone for Kashmirโs tourism industry, noting that the tulip bloom has emerged as one of the countryโs top seasonal attractions. The overwhelming response is seen as a reflection of tourists’ growing confidence in Kashmir as a safe and beautiful travel destination.
Visitors have expressed awe at the gardenโs charm. Sandeep, a tourist from Gujarat, said he was โmesmerisedโ by the vibrant floral display, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A traveller from the UK echoed the sentiment, praising the gardenโs natural beauty and the warm hospitality of the region.
The surge in tourism has also provided a boost to local businesses. Ilyas Ahad, an ice cream vendor outside the garden, said this season has brought him the best sales in years, with some days ending in complete sellouts. โThe rush has brought us renewed hope,โ he said.
With the tulip season still underway, the mood in Srinagar is one of celebration and optimismโamong visitors soaking in the sights, and among locals who see the crowds as a promising sign for the regionโs future in tourism.
