Following Operation Sindoor, flight operations and passenger traffic at Srinagar International Airport have seen a notable surge. On May 16 alone, the airport managed 40 flights and served 5,720 passengers, signaling a strong rebound in air connectivity across Kashmir after recent disruptions.

According to airport authorities, 20 flights arrived and 20 departed on May 16, bringing in 3,340 passengers and seeing off 2,380. This recovery comes just ten days after operations were suspended due to rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border.

On May 15, traffic was even higher, with 44 flightsโ€”22 arrivals and 22 departuresโ€”and a total of 6,844 passengers. Among them were 641 Hajj pilgrims, marking the beginning of the annual pilgrimage from the Valley.

In a warm gesture, airport officials greeted incoming defense personnel and other passengers with flowers on May 16, reflecting a commitment to offering a welcoming and dignified travel experience.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Civil Aviation, along with the Civil Aviation Secretary, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and senior officials, visited Srinagar Airport to assess ongoing development projects. They interacted with passengers and staff, and praised the airport team for maintaining operations under challenging circumstances. A detailed presentation was also given on infrastructure upgrades and future expansion plans.

Flight services had been suspended across 32 airports, including Srinagar, starting May 7, following Indiaโ€™s Operation Sindoorโ€”an offensive targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan. The mission was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including those of tourists and foreign nationals.

The suspension had caused major travel disruptions in the Kashmir Valley, affecting both locals and tourists.
