Poonch, April 15 โ A soldier from the Armyโs Rashtriya Rifles battalion was injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Lassana village of Poonch late Monday evening. The encounter broke out after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) based on intelligence inputs indicating terrorist movement in the Lassana Top and Dundak areas.
Officials said that as the cordon was being established, terrorists hiding in dense vegetation opened fire, injuring an army personnel. The attack was met with retaliatory fire from the security forces, leading to a brief exchange that lasted until midnight. The injured soldier was evacuated to a military hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
While no further firing was reported as of Tuesday morning, a large-scale anti-terror operation is underway to locate and neutralize the remaining militants. โContact was established with terrorists during a joint operation with J&K Police at Lasana, Surankote last night,โ the Indian Army said in an official statement. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent any escape attempts by the militants, the statement added.
