Srinagar, May 12: Amid improving security conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced that schools and colleges in non-border districts will reopen from Tuesday, May 13. The announcement was made by Education Minister Sakina Ittoo via her official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Institutions in districts like Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Ramban in the Jammu division will resume operations. However, due to ongoing security concerns, educational institutions in border districtsโincluding Kupwara, Baramulla, the Gurez subdivision of Bandipora, Kathua, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Udhampurโwill remain shut until further notice.
Director of School Education, Dr. Naseem Javed Choudhary, confirmed that all government and private schools in non-border areas will reopen as planned. Director of Colleges, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, also stated that government degree colleges in these districts will resume functioning on the same date.
NIT Srinagar announced it would continue online classes until June 6, with physical classes beginning June 11. The University of Kashmir will resume regular classes on May 14 across all campuses, but students from border areas or outside J&K are advised to rejoin on May 19. The University of Jammu has postponed all examinations scheduled up to May 18 due to the situation.
Meanwhile, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri earlier postponed all exams slated between May 13 and May 17, also citing security concerns.
