Srinagar, June 5 – A robust multi-layered security arrangement has been rolled out across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile visit on Friday. The PM is scheduled to inaugurate the long-awaited Kashmir rail link and unveil development projects worth over ₹46,000 crore in Katra.

This marks Modi’s first visit to the Union Territory since the Indian Armed Forces executed ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

According to a senior police officer at Police Headquarters, security has been significantly beefed up in Katra and neighboring districts in anticipation of the visit. “A high-level meeting involving various security agencies was held in Jammu to finalize the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which are now being implemented,” the officer said.

To bolster the security grid, additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at key locations. Surveillance has been tightened with CCTV monitoring, checkpoints, and frisking points across Jammu and nearby areas.

Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel are on the ground in major urban areas, while J&K Police Commandos and CRPF units are stationed along the railway track. Checkpoints and vehicle inspections will remain active along major highways as a preventive measure.

Security forces, including the army and intelligence agencies, are closely monitoring the situation. Heavy deployment surrounds the event venues, complemented by drone surveillance and high-tech monitoring systems.

Tight security is also in place along the borders and interiors to thwart infiltration or subversive attempts. Officials have intensified area domination patrols and carried out raids at the residences of suspected Over Ground Workers and families of cross-border militants.

To ensure the event proceeds without incident, stringent measures have been taken along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, particularly in areas like Kulgam and Qazigund. Additional forces from J&K Police, CRPF, and SSB are on high alert across these critical stretches.

Security officials have also been tasked with enhancing surveillance and threat detection using advanced technologies and real-time monitoring tools.

The PM’s visit will mark a major milestone, as the new rail link promises to establish year-round, seamless connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country—boosting regional mobility and fostering economic growth.
