Jammu, June 01:Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of June, with plans to inaugurate the first-ever Vande Bharat Express to the Kashmir Valley, according to senior BJP leader Ravinder Raina.

Raina, a National Executive Member of the BJP and former party president in J&K, said the Prime Ministerโ€™s visit will mark a significant development for the region. โ€œPM Modi will be in Jammu in the first week of June to flag off the Vande Bharat train to Kashmir,โ€ he stated.

This visit will be Modiโ€™s first to the Union Territory following the successful conclusion of โ€˜Operation Sindoorโ€™, which was launched in retaliation to the May 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

The high-speed Vande Bharat train was originally scheduled for launch last month but was delayed due to logistical issues, as per officials. The specific date for the Prime Ministerโ€™s visit is being coordinated with security agencies, with June 6, 7, or 8 being the most likely options.

The visit follows closely on the heels of Union Home Minister Amit Shahโ€™s recent two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, during which he assessed security preparedness and met with victims of cross-border shelling in Poonch. Shah is also reported to have held extensive discussions with senior security officials in Jammu and Srinagar regarding operational logistics and threat assessments.

Railway officials noted that the initial launch date of June 2 for the Vande Bharat Express was postponed and a new date is expected to align with the Prime Ministerโ€™s visit.

The upcoming tour is seen as particularly significant in the wake of recent counter-terrorism actions, especially as the Prime Minister has reiterated that any act of terrorism will be met with a strong, war-like response from India.
