Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that over 8 lakh people across the Union Territory are receiving monthly financial assistance under various welfare schemes — 4.5 lakh in Kashmir and 3.6 lakh in Jammu.
Replying to a question by MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone, the concerned minister said there has been no delay in the disbursement of pensions, which are being issued regularly as per scheme guidelines.
He said 4,50,797 beneficiaries in the Kashmir Division are receiving aid under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), while 64,881 more are covered under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP). In Jammu Division, 3,61,182 individuals are availing benefits under these schemes.
However, in response to another question, the minister acknowledged delays in releasing marriage assistance.
He explained that in cases where departmental funds are unavailable, payments might be issued after the marriage — but only for those who applied at least one month before the wedding.
