Srinagar, April 5: Police in North Kashmir have ramped up their fight against drug trafficking, registering 505 narcotics cases, arresting 643 individuals, and seizing 347 kilograms of contraband during 2024 and early 2025, officials said.

Authorities also confiscated illegally acquired assets worth โ‚น157.5 crore and detained 113 people under preventive laws, reinforcing a strict zero-tolerance stance.

Officials acknowledged the regionโ€™s vulnerability due to its proximity to the Line of Control (LoC), making it a hotspot for smuggling. Despite these challenges, police say major breakthroughs have been achieved.

To complement enforcement, authorities launched 437 outreach initiativesโ€”such as Thana Diwas events, school programs, and awareness campaignsโ€”to curb demand and build public support for a drug-free society.

โ€œWeโ€™re not just arresting offenders but also dismantling financial networks by targeting benami properties,โ€ a senior officer noted, stressing the importance of community involvement.

The crackdown will persist through 2025 and beyond, combining firm law enforcement with grassroots engagement to tackle the drug menace, officials assured.
