Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised Indian javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra for surpassing the 90-meter mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025, calling it a result of his โ€œrelentless dedication, discipline, and passion.โ€

โ€œAn incredible achievement! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for crossing the 90-meter mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025 and setting a personal best. This success reflects his unwavering commitment and hard work. India is proud and thrilled,โ€ PM Modi tweeted.

Neeraj Chopra made history on Friday by becoming the first Indian to cross the 90-meter barrier in javelin throw. Despite leading for most of the event with an impressive 90.23-meter throw that broke his own national record, he was ultimately surpassed by Germanyโ€™s Julian Weber, who threw 91.06 meters in the final round, pushing Neeraj to second place. Grenadaโ€™s Anderson Peters secured third with a throw of 85.64 meters.

Neeraj started strong with an 88.44-meter throw, holding the lead through the initial rounds. Though his second attempt was a foul, he maintained his top position. Julian Weber was in third with an 85.57-meter throw at that time.

His third throw of 90.23 meters not only set a new personal and national record but also solidified his lead. Julian Weber closely followed with 89.06 meters. Neerajโ€™s subsequent throws were 80.56 meters and a foul, but he stayed ahead until the final round.

In the last round, Weber outdid him with a massive 91.06-meter throw, resulting in Neeraj finishing second with his last throw measuring 88.20 meters.
