Srinagar, Apr 18: The Postgraduate Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in partnership with JAKASI, successfully conducted a Live Operative Workshop on Advanced Laparoscopic GI and Gynae Oncosurgery at the GMC Auditorium on Friday.

According to a GMC statement, the workshop drew participation from surgical faculty and postgraduate students across the region. A major highlight of the event was the presence of globally acclaimed laparoscopic oncosurgeon, Dr Shailesh Puntambekar from Galaxy Hospital, Pune, who demonstrated advanced procedures including Laparoscopic Whippleโ€™s Procedure, Laparoscopic LAR for Rectal Cancer, and Laparoscopic Wertheimโ€™s Hysterectomy for Endometrial Cancer.

The workshopโ€™s inauguration was held under the patronage of GMC Srinagar Principal and Dean, Prof Iffat Hassan Shah. Dr Puntambekar was the guest of honour, while Principals of GMC Anantnag, Prof Rukhsana Najeeb, and SKIMS Medical College, Prof Fazl ul Qadir Parray, attended as special guests.

Special recognition was given to Prof Iqbal Saleem Mir, HOD Surgery and Organising Chairman, whose leadership and dedication played a key role in the eventโ€™s success. The workshop, offering four CME credit hours, underscored GMC Srinagarโ€™s commitment to surgical education and clinical advancement in the region.
