New Delhi, June 4– In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori, New Delhi commemorated Pandit Bhajan Sopori Day on June 2, marking his Nirvana Divas with an extraordinary musical celebration.

Held at Jhankar Hall, the event brought together a diverse group of musicians from across India, showcasing the country’s rich musical traditions in an exclusive gathering of the music community. The event featured Hazri performances by artists of all ages, offering a continuous stream of musical homage that lasted over eight hours—a rare and moving tribute in today’s fast-paced musical era.

Senior and younger musicians alike came together in what many described as a historic convergence. Renowned tabla maestro Pandit Ram Kumar Mishra remarked, “For the first time in nearly 50-60 years, Delhi NCR witnessed such an extensive and emotional gathering of the entire music fraternity—a truly unprecedented moment in Indian music history.”

Throughout the evening, artists paid floral and musical tributes to Pandit Bhajan Sopori, celebrating not only his groundbreaking work with the Santoor—which he elevated to a major classical solo instrument—but also his vast contributions to Indian music. Known for composing 8,000 to 10,000 songs across various languages, Sopori was remembered as a mentor, visionary, and humanitarian.

Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra noted, “He wasn’t just a musical genius; he provided platforms for artists across generations and consistently championed classical, folk, and light music throughout the country.”

His son and musical heir, Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopori, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all those who participated, calling the gathering a memorable and deeply emotional homage.
