Srinagar, May 21: The sixth edition of the Inter-College Badminton Rolling Trophy 2025, hosted by Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road, Srinagar, concluded on Wednesday with GCW Nawakadal emerging as the champions.

 

Organised by the Department of Physical Education, the tournament kicked off on May 5 and saw spirited participation from several colleges. The final match between the host college and GCW Nawakadal was marked by high energy and competitive spirit, ultimately seeing GCW Nawakadal win 2-0.

 

At the closing ceremony, principals from both colleges attended and distributed medals and trophies to the players. Speaking at the event, host college Principal Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq praised the participants and highlighted the importance of such events in encouraging physical fitness, teamwork, and sports culture among studentsโ€”particularly women. She noted that the college is continuously enhancing its sports infrastructure and actively collaborating with various associations to foster female participation in sports.

 

Prof. Yasmeen also emphasized the collegeโ€™s commitment to nurturing sports talent, pointing to several past victories in inter-college tournaments by its students.

 

The tournament was inaugurated on May 5 with Prof. (Dr.) Syed Wilayat Hussain Rizvi, Registrar of Cluster University Srinagar, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Munir Ahmad Mir, Sports Secretary of the university, as Guest of Honour. Both applauded the collegeโ€™s efforts in promoting studentsโ€™ holistic development through sports.
