Jammu, April 10: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary chaired a high-level meeting to assess mining-related challenges affecting NHAI projects and to review the progress of various National Highway infrastructure initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir.
Key officials attended the meeting, including Commissioner Secretary Mining Vikramjit Singh, Secretary Public Works (R&B) Bhupinder Kumar, and representatives from agencies like NHAI, NHIDCL, BRO, MoRTH, along with project directors and regional officers who joined virtually.
The review focused on major projects such as the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra (DAK) Expressway, Srinagar Ring Road, Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri stretch, Jammu-Rajouri highway, and others.
Highlighting the significance of these infrastructure ventures, the Deputy CM issued strict directives for their timely completion with minimal disruption to the public. NHAI representatives pointed out delays due to pending mining permissions, STPs for soil and RBM, and material supply issues.
Assuring support, the Deputy CM stated that all concerns would be addressed to prevent delays. He also raised alarm over illegal mining, emphasizing the governmentโs commitment to environmental preservation and warning that strict legal action would be taken against offenders.
Choudhary instructed officials to enforce stringent measures against illegal mining and urged construction agencies to clear penalties to ensure uninterrupted material supply. He promised government cooperation with NHAI after compliance with these requirements.
He further directed departmental officials to conduct joint field inspections with NHAI to curb illegal mining that could impede project progress. The Deputy CM called for enhanced coordination among all departments and agencies through regular meetings to promptly resolve emerging issues.
