Jammu, May 27 โ€“ In light of escalating tensions along the International Border (IB), Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand, on Tuesday said that โ€˜Operation Sindoorโ€™ is actively underway to counter any infiltration or cross-border aggression from Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan remains untrustworthy and warned of a strong retaliatory stance against any provocation.

Speaking at a press conference in Jammu, IG Anand said the BSF is on maximum alert with heightened surveillance and preparedness. โ€œWe are receiving credible intelligence about potential cross-border mischief. Whether it’s infiltration or ceasefire violations, we are ready to respond firmly,โ€ he stated.

Reinforcing the BSFโ€™s position, Anand described Pakistan as an โ€œunreliable adversaryโ€ and said Operation Sindoor has intensified with upgraded monitoring along the IB. He praised the dedication of BSF personnel, particularly women on the frontlines, highlighting Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari for her courageous service.

To honour bravery and sacrifice, Anand announced that a post in the Samba sector would be named after Operation Sindoor, and two others would commemorate fallen martyrs.

He cited a recent major infiltration attempt in the Sialkot sector, where 40โ€“50 terrorists tried to enter Indian territory under cover fire from Pakistan. โ€œWe carried out preemptive strikes that forced both terrorists and Pakistani Rangers to retreat with significant losses,โ€ Anand said.

He also noted that Pakistan continues to use cover fire tactics to facilitate infiltrations. โ€œWe have foiled several such plots and remain vigilant, especially in high-risk zones,โ€ he added.

Regarding the ongoing security concerns after the April 22 attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Anand said that Operation Sindoor reflects BSFโ€™s proactive strategy along both the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri and the IB in Jammu. โ€œPakistani Rangers have mostly been forced to stay confined to their posts due to our dominant presence,โ€ he said.

Anand shared that BSF had successfully targeted and neutralized terror launch pads in areas like Akhnoor, Samba, and R S Puraโ€”specifically in Loni, Mastpur, and Chabbra. โ€œOn May 9 and 10, we retaliated strongly to unprovoked Pakistani firing, causing major damage to Lashkar-e-Taiba launch pads,โ€ he noted.

He also raised concerns about drone threats, stating that drones have been used to drop explosives on BSF posts, resulting in the loss of three personnel. In response, BSF is expanding its technological capabilities and upgrading the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) to enhance border monitoring.

Highlighting civilian support measures, Anand said that BSF encourages farmers to continue their work along the border and takes steps to ensure their safety. โ€œWe also conduct civic outreach to build confidence and boost morale,โ€ he said.

โ€œBSF is Indiaโ€™s first line of defence. While we never provoke, we will respond swiftly and forcefully when challenged,โ€ he asserted.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chitterpal Singh added that Pakistan has also used drones to drop weapons in border villages like Abdullian. โ€œIn retaliation, BSF destroyed 72 Pakistani posts and 47 forward positions, with no damage to our own infrastructure,โ€ Singh said.
