Jammu, June 14: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is bolstering security and infrastructure ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, set to begin on July 3 and end on August 9.
To ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage, authorities are installing CCTV surveillance systems at all transit and base camps. At the same time, the traditional chain-link fencing at Jammu-based transit campsโlocated in Kathua and Sambaโis being replaced with concrete boundary walls.
Senior Tourism Officer Rajesh Raina told Rising Kashmir that the surveillance and structural upgrades are part of comprehensive preparations to enhance pilgrim safety. โConcrete boundary walls and CCTV cameras are being set up at both Kathua and Samba transit camps,โ he said.
Significant capacity expansion is also underway at the Samba camp in the Jatwal area, where accommodation is being scaled up from 100 to 350 pilgrims. In addition, old temporary sheds are being replaced with fully air-conditioned concrete halls to provide greater comfort.
This yearโs Yatra will mark the first time pilgrimsโboth domestic and internationalโwill be housed in air-conditioned concrete shelters under full CCTV coverage, representing a major leap forward in infrastructure and safety for the sacred pilgrimage.
