Last respects were paid to Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thapa, who tragically lost his life after a Pakistani shell struck his residence during recent cross-border shelling in Rajouri.

Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other senior political and administrative officials gathered in Jammu to honor Thapa at a solemn tribute ceremony, also attended by security personnel.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Thapaโ€™s grieving family and offered his condolences. The Chief Ministerโ€™s Office posted on X, โ€œPaid my heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, JKAS, ADDC Rajouri, who lost his life in the line of duty today due to shelling by Pakistan. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The Government stands firmly with his family in this hour of grief.โ€

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also expressed deep sorrow over Thapaโ€™s passing, extending heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and praying for his soul to rest in peace.

Several civilian homes and properties in Rajouri were damaged amid shelling by Pakistan, causing panic among residents as explosions echoed and smoke filled the skies.

Earlier, the Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed a wreath-laying ceremony was scheduled for May 11 at Frontier Headquarters Jammu, Paloura, in honor of BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz, who was also killed in cross-border firing in the RS Pura sector.

On Sunday, BSF Director General and all ranks paid tribute to Sub-Inspector Imtiaz, honoring his sacrifice.
