Jammu, Apr 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Fire and Emergency Services Department has trained over 8.23 lakh individuals in fire safety under the โ€˜Har Ghar Fire Fighterโ€™ initiative since August 2022.

Speaking on the occasion of Fire Services Day, Director Alok Kumar said the department conducted 7,551 awareness programs between August 2022 and March 2025. These sessions covered 3,949 educational institutions, 1,057 healthcare facilities, and 2,555 other establishments.

The training focused on educating students, teachers, healthcare workers, and support staff on fire prevention, safe evacuation, and first aid measures, enabling them to act as first responders in domestic fire emergencies.

Kumar encouraged citizens to conduct fire safety checks at homes and workplaces as a preventive measure.

A commemorative ceremony was held in Jammu, where personnel honored the sacrifices of firefighters, particularly those who died in the 1944 Bombay dock explosion.

This yearโ€™s Fire Services Week theme, โ€œUnite to Ignite a Fire-Safe India,โ€ highlights the importance of community responsibility in fire prevention. The department has also launched various outreach activities including a fire safety documentary, public lectures, essay and painting competitions, health checkups, and first aid training.

The director called on the public to actively support fire safety efforts by following precautions, reporting hazards, and participating in awareness campaigns.
