Srinagar, Apr 07: The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly that 270 Assistant Surgeon and 1,590 paramedic posts are currently vacant in the Kashmir Divisionโs Health Department.
Responding to a question from MLA Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani, Health Minister Sakina Itoo stated that out of 1,736 sanctioned Assistant Surgeon posts, 1,466 are filled. Similarly, only 2,628 of 4,218 paramedic positions are currently occupied.
She added that dialysis units will soon be set up at all Community Health Centres (CHCs), including those at Magam and Beerwah in Budgam district, in a phased manner. The minister also mentioned that 52 medical officers were appointed in 2023 and 226 in 2024.
On infrastructure, Itoo said health centre upgrades are being planned based on feasibility reports aligned with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) norms.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Omar Abdullah responded to a question from MLA Saif Uddin Bhat, stating that revised master plans for Doodhpathri and Tosamaidan Development Authorities are under review.
Abdullah said the Tourism Department has constructed food courts and kiosks at Doodhpathri, though no Yatri Niwas buildings have been set up at Raithan, Raiyar, Doodhpathri, or Sitaharan Tosamaidan. However, the Development Authority has provided basic accommodation at Doodhpathri and Tosamaidan.
He highlighted recent steps to improve tourism infrastructure, including budget accommodations, huts, cafeterias, tourist facilitation centres, and public conveniences. Plans are underway to further enhance these destinations through better roadways, parking areas, trekking routes, and amenities to boost the visitor experience.
