Ganderbal, May 22: The parched paddy fields of Saloora village in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have finally received much-needed water relief after a news report by Rising Kashmir highlighted the ongoing irrigation crisis.

Just a day earlier, farmers from Saloora and nearby areas had voiced concerns over drying irrigation canals caused by a persistent heatwave and lack of rainfall. Cracks had started forming in the fields, and the paddy saplingsโ€”central to the villagersโ€™ livelihoodโ€”were drying up, raising fears of drought.

After the report was published, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department responded swiftly. Officials revealed that a blockage in one of the field pipes was the root cause of the disruption. โ€œOnce the issue was brought to our attention, it was resolved immediately,โ€ an official said. โ€œWater supply has now been fully restored with adequate flow to all affected areas.โ€

Farmers confirmed the return of water to their fields and expressed relief and appreciation. โ€œOur crops were nearly ruined. But thanks to the swift departmental response and Rising Kashmirโ€™s coverage, our irrigation channels are flowing again,โ€ said one resident.

The community praised Rising Kashmir for shedding light on their situation and highlighted the critical role of the media in connecting peopleโ€™s concerns with government action.
