Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, widely known as โBharat Kumarโ for his patriotic films like Shaheed, Upkar, and Purab Aur Paschim, passed away at the age of 87 in a Mumbai hospital early Friday.
The celebrated star, whose films dominated the box office in the late 1960s and 1970s, had been unwell for some time and succumbed to age-related ailments at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital around 3:30 am, according to family friend and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit.
Dr. Santosh Shetty, CEO and executive director of the hospital, confirmed that Kumar had been hospitalized for several weeks. His son, Kunal, said the actor had been suffering from multiple health issues and was bedridden for years. Kumar had recently been admitted due to pneumonia.
