Helicopter services between Katra and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine resumed on Wednesday after a week-long suspension caused by heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

The resumption follows a mutual agreement between the two nations to cease hostilities, leading to a gradual return to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Reasi district. On Tuesday morning, visuals showed students returning to schools, signaling a return to routine life.

The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, announced that schools in several border districts โ€” including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch โ€” will reopen on May 15. Both government and private institutions are set to resume operations after being closed for five to six days due to security concerns.

The reopening of schools has brought relief to students and parents, underscoring efforts to restore educational continuity and stability in the region after a tense period.

The temporary closures and service disruptions followed India’s retaliatory precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Armed Forces, resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists and targeted key airbases in Pakistan. India also successfully repelled Pakistani military aggression during the aftermath.

Tensions have since de-escalated following communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, leading to an agreement to halt further military action and shelling.
