Srinagar, April 3: Police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have arrested two individuals for impersonating police officers and extorting money from the public.
According to an official statement, the arrests were made following a complaint from Mohd Altaf Ganai, a resident of Nageenpora Tral. The suspects, identified as Bashir Ahmad Sheikh of Saimooh and Mohd Shafi Dar of Dadsara, had been falsely claiming police authority to intimidate and extort money from locals.
Their fraudulent activities were exposed after multiple victims reported being coerced into paying money under false legal threats. Acting on these complaints, Tral Police registered FIR No. 31 of 2025 and took both individuals into custody.
Authorities have urged the public to stay cautious and report any such incidents where individuals attempt to misuse police identity for personal gain.
