Srinagar, May 30: The Sociology Department of Amar Singh College hosted a national conference titled โ€œSustainable Srinagar: Building Resilience in Fragile Ecosystems,โ€ supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). The event was inaugurated by Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner of the Higher Education Department and Additional Chief Secretary of J&K, who emphasized preserving Srinagarโ€™s traditional ecosystems and cultural heritage while advancing modern sustainability goals.

 

The conference featured discussions by academics and officials, including Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Prof. Seema Naaz, and Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Hakak, focusing on innovative strategies for urban sustainability. Keynote speaker Prof. Manoj Kumar Teotia highlighted the importance of inclusive and environmentally conscious development.

 

More than 40 research presentations were delivered across four parallel sessions, covering topics such as urban planning, environmental conservation, youth empowerment, and community participation. The event concluded with a tree plantation drive and a valedictory session led by environmentalist Faiz Bakshi. The conference provided a collaborative platform to promote a sustainable and resilient future for Srinagar in alignment with the Mission Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
