Meanwhile, multiple areas across Punjab, including Pathankot, Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur, and Jalandhar, experienced power blackouts on Saturday evening. Authorities confirmed that these blackouts were precautionary measures.
Jalandharโs Deputy Commissioner issued a statement urging residents to remain calm. “Street lights in some parts of Jalandhar are being turned off as a preventive measure. There is no official blackout at this time. The city is safe,” the statement clarified.
At a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri criticized Pakistan for violating a mutual agreement between the two countries’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) to halt cross-border hostilities.
Misri described the repeated ceasefire violations as a serious breach and warned of strong retaliatory action. โThese violations are a matter of deep concern. The armed forces have been instructed to respond firmly to any further aggression along the International Border and Line of Control,โ he stated.
The renewed tensions come in the wake of Indiaโs launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, a retaliatory mission following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. As part of the operation, India struck nine terror targets across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In response, Pakistan has engaged in a series of escalations, deploying artillery and drones, further straining the situation along the border.
