Srinagar, Apr 6: People’s Conference chairman and Handwara MLA, Sajad Gani Lone, has strongly criticized the administration over what he described as “selective enforcement” of mining regulations in Kupwara district.

Lone alleged that while local residents are penalized for transporting even small quantities of construction material like sand or gravel, large companies such as Choudhary Power Projects Pvt. Ltd. (GECPL) are allowed to engage in large-scale mining operations without proper oversight.

Calling the situation “legalized plunder,” Lone accused authorities of harassing locals while giving corporate entities unchecked freedom. He urged the administration to ensure equal treatment and put an end to what he termed a “license to loot.”
