Srinagar, May 27: The College of Temperate Sericulture at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Mirgund, in collaboration with the J&K Sericulture Development Department, distributed silkworm rearing equipment to selected seri-farmers in Pattan, Baramulla.

 

This initiative is part of the project titled โ€œEconomic Empowerment of Seri-Farmers through Technology Adoptionโ€, funded by the Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Affairs Department.

 

The event was inaugurated by Associate Dean Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Sahaf, who highlighted the vital contribution of sericulture to rural livelihoods and its potential to improve the socio-economic conditions of farmers. The aim is to encourage the adoption of modern sericulture practices to boost cocoon production and farmers’ incomes.

 

Scientists and research scholars from the college were also present, engaging with farmers and sharing insights.

 

Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat concluded the program by thanking the Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, the Commissioner Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department, and the Director of Research at SKUAST-K for their continued support. The distribution event also served as a platform for productive interaction between researchers and farmers, reinforcing the connection between academic innovation and field-level application.
