Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, where he interacted with soldiers and praised their bravery and determination during Operation Sindoor.
He was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
While meeting with the troops, the Defence Minister personally commended their efforts, shaking hands and patting them on the back as a gesture of appreciation. He also examined the Pakistani shells that had landed in J&K during the cross-border shelling that followed Indiaโs targeted strikes under Operation Sindoor.
Rajnath Singh lauded the soldiers for their precise attacks that destroyed Pakistani bunkers and posts. โThe enemy will never forget Operation Sindoor,โ he declared. He also acknowledged the anger and unity shown by the people of Jammu and Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack, saying, โI salute their spirit.โ
Singh also criticized Pakistanโs handling of its nuclear arsenal, expressing global concern over whether such weapons are safe in the hands of a country acting irresponsibly. โThe world should consider whether Pakistanโs nuclear weapons are secure. I believe they should come under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),โ he stated.
He further emphasized the Indian Armyโs precision, stating that โwhen our forces strike, they leave the consequences to the enemy.โ
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. In response, Indian forces struck terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Following Pakistanโs retaliatory shelling and drone threats, India launched a coordinated strike on 11 Pakistani airbases, targeting radar systems, communication hubs, and airfields. On May 10, both nations agreed to a cessation of hostilities.
