Srinagar, May 29: A brief spell of rain on Thursday brought welcome relief to Kashmir from the intense heatwave, as temperatures fell below normal across the Valley. Meanwhile, Jammu division continues to face extreme heat and humidity, with no immediate signs of relief, the Meteorological Department (MeT) said.

According to MeT Director Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours across many areas, including North, Central, and South Kashmir, as well as parts of Jammu division like Poonch, Rajouri, Banihal, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, Doda, and Kishtwar.

“On May 30 and 31, most areas will likely receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers. A few locations may even see heavy rainfall along with strong winds,” Dr. Ahmad said.

From June 1 to 3, weather is forecast to remain mostly stable, with occasional light rain or thundershowers in isolated areas. A dry spell is anticipated from June 4 to 6, though brief late afternoon showers may occur in some spots.

The MeT Centre in Srinagar issued a public advisory warning of possible landslides, mudslides, and flash floods in vulnerable areas during May 30–31 due to intense rainfall. Residents, especially in low-lying or unstable regions, are advised to remain cautious and avoid outdoor movement near loose structures, electric poles, and trees during adverse weather.

Temperature data showed some fluctuations across the Valley. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 28.2°C and a minimum of 15.5°C. Qazigund reached a high of 28.5°C and a low of 12.4°C. Pahalgam was relatively cooler with 24.4°C as the high and 8.1°C as the low.
