Police on Friday stopped a protest march by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, by barricading their headquarters and confining protestors within the premises.
Led by PDP general secretary Khurshid Alam, several party workers had gathered at the party office near Sher-e-Kashmir Park to express their opposition to the Act.
As they attempted to march towards the city centre, police personnel blocked their path and closed the gates, preventing them from leaving the compound.
Protesters held placards reading “We reject the Waqf Bill” and “NC’s silence is criminal,” while calling for the repeal of the law.
The demonstration concluded peacefully, with participants dispersing soonafter.
