New Delhi, May 8: Pakistanโ€™s ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians in the Poonch sector and left 59 others injured, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported on Thursday.

According to the MEAโ€™s external publicity division, 44 of the injured are from Poonch district. Officials said the Pakistan Army has intensified heavy shelling in multiple sectors along the LoC, prompting an effective retaliation from the Indian Army.

The escalation follows Indiaโ€™s military strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir early Wednesday.

โ€œDuring the night of May 7-8, Pakistani forces opened unprovoked fire with small arms and artillery across the LoC targeting areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor,โ€ a military spokesperson stated, adding that the Indian Army responded proportionately.

Amid the rising tensions, authorities have ordered closure of all educational institutions across five border districts in Jammu region for a second consecutive day on Thursday.
