Srinagar, May 08: Pakistan fired eight missiles targeting key areas in Jammu region, including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia, in a significant escalation on Thursday. Indian Air Defence systems successfully intercepted all incoming missiles, defense officials confirmed.

According to defense sources, the missile barrage resembled “low-cost, high-volume” attacks similar to Hamas-style offensives in Israel. They alleged that Pakistanโ€™s army is employing tactics inspired by militant groups, citing reports of meetings between Pakistanโ€™s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Hamas operatives in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir last month.

In addition to missiles, multiple Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defenses over Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Explosions and flashes were witnessed following the interceptions.

Lt. Col Suneel, PRO Defence Jammu, stated that military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were targeted by drones and missiles along the International Border. โ€œAll threats were neutralized using both kinetic and non-kinetic measures under standard protocols. No casualties or damage were reported,โ€ he assured.

He further noted that Pakistanโ€™s forces engaged in unprovoked firing overnight across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor. โ€œThe Indian Army responded proportionately,โ€ he said.

In response to the security situation, authorities enforced blackouts across parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, including key towns like Kishtwar, Akhnoor, Samba, Jammu, Bikaner, and Jalandhar, as a precaution against drone and missile threats.

Defense officials confirmed ongoing drone activity along the western front, stating, โ€œHostile drones were detected at multiple locations and effectively engaged by Indian air defense systems.โ€

On Thursday, Pakistan reportedly used loitering munitionsโ€”explosives designed to hover and strikeโ€”against Jammu. Indian forces countered with anti-aircraft fire to repel the attacks.

The flare-up follows Indiaโ€™s Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed dozens. Operation Sindoor targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK. Indian officials have warned of a strong response to any attacks on military facilities.

The Ministry of Defence reported intensified Pakistani shelling with mortars and heavy artillery across sectors in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri.

โ€œOur armed forces remain committed to de-escalation, provided it is reciprocated by Pakistanโ€™s military,โ€ Lt. Col Suneel added.
