New Delhi, April 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 as a “watershed moment,” emphasizing that it would empower marginalized communities who have long been deprived of opportunities and representation.

“The approval of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill by both Houses of Parliament marks a crucial step toward socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive growth,” Modi stated in a post on X.

Acknowledging the role of debate and discussion, he expressed appreciation for Members of Parliament who participated in shaping the legislation and thanked individuals who provided valuable inputs to the Parliamentary Committee.

He further highlighted that the amendments would ensure greater transparency in the Waqf system, which he claimed had previously lacked accountability, adversely affecting Muslim women and Pasmanda Muslims.

“For decades, the Waqf system suffered from a lack of transparency, impacting the rights of poor and marginalized Muslims, particularly women. These new legislations will enhance accountability and safeguard people’s rights,” he asserted.

Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring dignity and justice for every citizen, stating that the reforms would create a modern, socially just framework that fosters a more inclusive and compassionate India.
