On Wednesday, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During the meeting, the President was briefed about Operation Sindoor by the officers of the Indian Armed Forces. She praised the bravery and commitment of the Armed Forces, highlighting their key role in making India’s response to terrorism a remarkable success.
According to a post by Rashtrapati Bhavan on โXโ, the military chiefs provided a detailed update on Operation Sindoor to President Murmu, who commended the dedication of the Armed Forces.
The Indian Armed Forces had launched strikes on May 7, targeting nine terror hideouts in remote regions of Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian government also swiftly suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan following a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, convened a day after the attack.
On May 12, in his address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi declared that, following the surgical strike in 2016 and the airstrike in 2019, Operation Sindoor now represents India’s stance on combating terrorism. He also mentioned that India had put the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan on hold after the Pahalgam attack, asserting that water and blood could not flow together. Modi emphasized that any future discussions with Pakistan would only focus on terrorism and the vacating of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The Prime Minister concluded by stating that Operation Sindoor has set a new benchmark in Indiaโs fight against terrorism and has established a new standard for Indiaโs response to such threats.
