New Delhi, April 12: In a heartfelt display of duty and personal commitment, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took part in the wedding of Pulwama martyr Hemraj Meenaโs daughter, honoring a promise he made six years ago to the soldierโs family.
The wedding of Reena Meena, held at their home in Sangod, Kota, marked the first major celebration in the family since Hemraj Meena was killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack. Amid the joy and emotion, Om Birla stood not only as a dignitary but as a โRakhi brotherโ to Veerangana Madhubala, the widow of the fallen CRPF soldier.
In keeping with Rajasthani tradition, Birla brought โmayraโโa ceremonial gift from a brother to his sisterโs daughter during her wedding. The moving gesture, rooted in a vow made during the familyโs time of mourning, brought tears to many eyes as Madhubala welcomed him with aarti and tilak, and Birla draped a chunari over her shouldersโsymbolizing their bond of sibling-like affection.
For the past six years, Birla has remained a steadfast supporter of the Meena family, regularly visiting them during Raksha Bandhan and Bhai Dooj, when Madhubala ties a rakhi on his wrist, strengthening the emotional connection formed through shared grief and mutual respect.
Speaking at the ceremony, Birla paid tribute to Meenaโs sacrifice, stating, โHis bravery and love for the nation will always inspire us. Supporting his family is not just a dutyโit is a heartfelt responsibility that I have taken on with honor.โ
Reena Meenaโs wedding turned into a touching community celebration, reflecting themes of healing, sacrifice, and the deep bonds that emerge from acts of selfless service.
