Srinagar, Apr 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that swift efforts are underway to restore the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and support residents in Ramban district following landslides caused by continuous heavy rainfall.Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Omar said he is visiting Ramban personally to assess the situation and will chair a review meeting there.

โ€œThe situation has worsened in several Ramban areas. I had already sent the Deputy Chief Minister and two local MLAs to evaluate the ground conditions,โ€ he said, adding that the administration is working tirelessly to reopen the highway and aid affected residents.

He also said relief efforts are being mobilized, and compensation will be provided using the Prime Ministerโ€™s Relief Fund and other resources.

Omar assured the public that there is no shortage of essentials and that strict action will be taken against black marketing and price manipulation. He encouraged citizens to report violations, saying the police are empowered to take necessary action, including arrests if needed.

He added that the Mughal Road is being kept open as an alternative route to ensure supply continuity in Kashmir.

Addressing a separate issue, the CM responded to a question about judicial review, saying the Supreme Court has full authority to examine government actions. โ€œWe approached the SC over Article 370. Even during Indira Gandhiโ€™s emergency, the courts intervened. Judicial review should not be politicized,โ€ he said.

He noted that the Assembly has done its part and the issue is now before the court. โ€œWeโ€™ve received some interim relief. Interference by non-Muslims has been halted, and self-declared waqf activities are ongoing. Let the Supreme Court decide,โ€ Omar concluded.
