Jammu, May 10 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited civilian areas in Jammuโs Rajouri district, which had been targeted by Pakistan through drone and missile strikes.
Among the victims was Raj Kumar Thappa, a J&K Administration Services officer and Rajouri resident, who lost his life after his home was struck during continuous shelling by Pakistan.
Expressing sorrow over Thappaโs death, Omar Abdullah shared his condolences on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
โHeartbreaking news from Rajouri. Weโve lost a committed officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday, he accompanied the Deputy CM and joined an online meeting I chaired. Today, his home was hit by Pakistani shelling, killing our Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thappa. Iโm deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic loss. May his soul rest in peace,โ his post read.
Saturdayโs cross-border shelling by Pakistan caused severe damage to civilian properties in Rajouri, leaving residents fearful. Explosions damaged several homes, sending plumes of smoke into the air.
โOne injured person has been brought here. Our doctors and team were ready, and treatment began immediately,โ said Farukh Ahmed Wani, the hospitalโs security officer.
Authorities confirmed the injured civilian was swiftly taken to the hospital after the shelling. Strikes also occurred near the Aap Shambhu Temple in Jammu, where police and other agencies recovered debris from the explosions.
Meanwhile, Indian airstrikes reportedly hit at least four airbases in Pakistan early Saturday, according to top government sources. These retaliatory strikes followed Pakistanโs attacks on 26 locations across India that same day. Sporadic firing continued at multiple points along the Line of Control (LoC).
