Srinagar, April 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has convened an emergency meeting of party legislators to strongly oppose the recent transfer of 48 JKAS officers by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinhaโ€”an administrative move the elected government sees as infringing on its authority.

According to sources, the meeting, chaired by Omar Abdullah, will finalize a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The letter is expected to express concern over the transfers, calling them a breach of the democratic mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The discussion will also focus on key political issues, including the demand for restoration of statehood and the implications of the recently passed Waqf Bill, which may significantly affect the Muslim-majority Union Territory.
