Uri, May 07: At least nine civilians were injured and multiple houses damaged as Pakistani forces allegedly carried out heavy shelling in Uri sector during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, officials and locals reported.

According to sources, homes in Nowpora and Kalgae areas of Salamabad Uri suffered extensive damage. The injured โ€” identified as Zeenat Begum (wife of Shameem Naik), Bisma (daughter of Feroz Malik), Sadiya (daughter of Younus Naik), her brother Ayan Yunus (8), Badar Deen (son of Lateef Naik), Rehan Naik (8, son of Badar Deen), Mehrooba (4), Hamid Khan (son of Kutib Deen), and Parvaiz Khan (son of Abdul Hameed) โ€” were hospitalized.

Locals said the intense shelling forced many families to flee to safer areas. Among the severely damaged homes were those of Talib Hussain and Dr. Bashir Ahmad Chakoo in Salamabad.

Reports also indicated property damage, including houses and vehicles, in Karnah sector along the Line of Control (LoC).

Army officials stated they responded to the ceasefire violation with โ€œproportionate force.โ€
