Srinagar, May 31: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC), reaffirmed the partyโs commitment to reviving Jammu and Kashmirโs stalled development during a womenโs wing provincial meeting held at the party headquarters on Saturday. He pointed out the setbacks caused by years of undemocratic governance and bureaucratic inertia and praised the current democratic government, led by Omar Abdullah, for actively working to reverse these damages.
The meeting, convened by NC State Womenโs Wing President Shameema Firdous and attended by leaders including Provincial President Er Sabiya Qadri, focused on inclusive governance, with a special emphasis on womenโs empowerment and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Dr. Farooq emphasized that Omar Abdullahโs administration is dedicated to rebuilding a prosperous future for the region by addressing long-standing developmental obstacles. He stated that a change in direction is not only necessary but crucial.
Dr. Farooq also lauded the vital role women play in society and politics, calling them the backbone of the region and agents of change. He stressed that empowering women is key to Jammu and Kashmirโs overall progress, and the NC is committed to providing opportunities and tools for women to lead and thrive.
He further reiterated the National Conferenceโs vision of a just, equitable, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir where governance is transparent, responsive, and truly democratic, leaving no citizen behind.
Other party leaders present included Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir, Provincial Secretary Syed Tawqeer Ahmad, Provincial Vice President Salman Ali Sagar, and Womenโs Wing Provincial Secretary Aisha Ji. They pledged to strengthen the partyโs vision of unity and development.
Shameema Firdous praised Chief Minister Omar Abdullahโs โvisionaryโ budget allocations for womenโs upliftment, highlighting initiatives in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and skill development that have made his tenure a turning point in womenโs empowerment in the region.
Er Sabiya Qadri spoke positively about the tangible improvements seen since Omar Abdullahโs government came to power, emphasizing the democratic administrationโs positive impact on Jammu and Kashmir.
