Jammu, May 14: Residents of the Bishnah constituency are set to benefit from improved power supply as MLA Dr. Rajeev Bhagat inaugurated a new 50 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) transformer at the Lalyana Grid Station on Wednesday. The project, valued at Rs 5.50 crore, aims to reduce unscheduled power outages in the region.
Dr. Bhagat also announced plans for an additional 50 MVA transformer worth Rs 9.50 crore to be installed at the same station soon. This initiative represents a major effort to enhance the area’s power infrastructure and meet the rising electricity demands.
The inauguration ceremony drew enthusiastic participation from local residents and officials. The newly commissioned transformer will supplement the existing 100 MVA unit already operating at the station, boosting the stationโs overall capacity.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhagat reiterated his commitment to ensuring a consistent and reliable power supply for all. He said that the persistent power cuts in Bishnah have been a pressing issue and the installation of new transformers directly addresses these concerns.
โThis is a significant day for the people of Bishnah,โ he stated. โThe addition of this 50 MVA transformer, along with the upcoming one, will greatly strengthen our power infrastructure and provide relief during high-demand periods.โ
He also emphasized that the Rs 5.50 crore investment reflects the governmentโs broader mission to enhance basic services and improve the quality of life for citizens. Dr. Bhagat praised the Power Development Department (PDD) for its efficient execution of the project.
PDD Executive Engineer Rajesh Bhagat, who was present at the event, shared technical insights, noting that the new transformer would significantly expand the grid stationโs load-handling capacity, better serving the growing electricity needs of the Bishnah area.
Local leaders and residents, also present at the event, expressed appreciation for the project, highlighting the challenges theyโve faced due to frequent outages affecting homes, businesses, and studentsโ education. They voiced hope that the new infrastructure would finally resolve these long-standing problems and thanked the MLA and the PDD for their efforts.
