Jammu, May 10 (ANI): Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistani forces on Saturday caused widespread damage to homes and religious sites across Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Kupwara, Uri, and Poonch districts. Despite the destruction, residents pledged unwavering support for the Indian Army.

Civilian areas bore the brunt of the attacks, with homes and properties in Uri suffering significant damage. In Poonch, shelling left several houses and water tanks extensively damaged, raising fears among locals.

โ€œThe entire house is destroyed. Nearby houses have also been hitโ€ฆ Pakistan is deliberately targeting civilian areas, including gurdwaras, temples, and mosques,โ€ said Balbir Singh, a resident of Poonch. โ€œPeople are scared, but we wonโ€™t abandon our homes. Weโ€™ll stand shoulder to shoulder with the Army and Administration. Let them bomb usโ€”we wonโ€™t be intimidated.โ€

Singh recalled his familyโ€™s displacement in 1947, vowing not to leave Poonch despite the ongoing attacks. โ€œWeโ€™ve lived through worse. We will stay here, no matter what,โ€ he said.

In Jammu, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and administration officials cordoned off the area near the Aap Shambhu Temple following a Pakistani strike. Authorities confirmed no casualties from the incident.

โ€œA siren went off early this morning, so fewer people were at the temple at the time of the strike. Pakistan will get a fitting response for this provocation,โ€ a local resident told reporters.

Jammu Police and other agencies are recovering projectile fragments from multiple sites, including Bishnah, Lasjan, and Akhnoor. While debris and splinters were found, no major structural damage was reported in those areas.

Meanwhile, top government sources revealed that Indian forces carried out retaliatory strikes on at least four airbases inside Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday, following Pakistanโ€™s attacks on 26 locations across India. Intermittent firing continues along several points of the Line of Control (LoC).

The situation remains tense as security forces maintain heightened vigilance across the region.
