Jammu, June 9: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed the administrationโs commitment to promoting equality, dignity, and opportunity for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) by launching a large-scale distribution drive for aids and appliances in Jammu.
Speaking at the event, LG Sinha praised the resilience and unique strengths of differently-abled individuals, stating that they possess extraordinary problem-solving skills, empathy, and capabilities. He assured the Divyangjan community of the government’s full support in ensuring equal rights and opportunities across all aspects of life.
The distribution drive, organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare Jammu under the ADIP and RVY schemes, seeks to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens with disabilities and empower all Divyangjan through assistive devices.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusion and innovation, Sinha called on officials to use technology to meet the evolving needs of the differently-abled. He stressed the need to eliminate all barriersโphysical, digital, and socialโto ensure fair access.
During the event, pension arrears totaling โน6.14 crore were distributed to 12,660 beneficiaries under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), which had faced delays due to Aadhaar-related issues. LG Sinha also announced a new mobile app by the Social Welfare Department to help include more senior citizens in pension schemes.
He inaugurated a 50-bed Half-Way Home at Lower Chowadi, Jammu, under the DDRS scheme for individuals recovering from mental illnesses, and dedicated the Parisha Child Care Institution for Girls in Samba, built at a cost of โน3.03 crore.
In a major boost to self-employment for Divyangjan, Sinha promised full departmental support and suggested creating a dedicated park for them to the central government.
In collaboration with ALIMCO, the Directorate of Social Welfare Jammu has conducted 112 assessment camps in all ten districts of Jammu Division. So far, 2,939 persons with disabilities and 2,756 senior citizens have been identified, with over 19,960 aids and appliances to be distributed.
The event was attended by several MLAs, senior officials, NGO representatives, and Divyangjan beneficiaries.
