Jammu, April 27: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district have imposed a ban on the sale, stitching, and storage of army uniforms and combat-patterned clothing to prevent their misuse by anti-national elements. The directive was issued by Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, citing the potential threat to public safety, peace, and security as the reason for the urgent action.
According to the order issued on Saturday, all authorised private firms and shops dealing in combat attire must immediately notify their nearest police station, providing proof of their authority to engage in such business. They have been given a 15-day window from the date of the order to comply.
Additionally, all authorised dealers must submit fortnightly reports detailing sales of combat or khadi clothing, including full particulars of the Army, paramilitary, or police personnel to whom the items were sold. This information must be shared with the respective Station House Officers regularly.
Dealers are required to maintain a register of all transactions, which must be available for inspection by competent authorities at any time. Sales are restricted to verified members of the armed forces, and their identities and unit details must be recorded.
The order authorises tehsildars, executive magistrates of the first class, and police officers of the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector or higher to inspect these records. It also warns that violations of the order will attract legal action.
